Meera Jasmine (Jasmine Mary Joseph) was born on 15 February 1984 to father Joseph Philip and Aleyamma in Kuttappuzha, Tiruvalla, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, India. She is a Syrian Christian by faith and has two sisters and two brothers. She did her schooling from Mar Thoma Residential School in Tiruvalla, before her entry into films.
Meera has never framed her career to be in the lane of entertainment and showbiz, but she got the acting opportunity by chance and accepted it thinking to return back to her studies if she fails to make any mark.
Career in Movie
She first meet Malayalam screenwriter Lohithadas, who let her make debut role in Malayalam film Soothradharan in 2001. Though Soothradharan did not do well at the box office, she was successful in pronouncing her name and talent and she was then received many offers from both Kollywood and Tollywood.
In the year 2002, she appeared in Tamil films Run and Bala. The success of Run made her a well-known star in Kollywood. She acted in many Tamil films and her acting spree let her team with popular actors, and she even grab chance to work with director Mani Ratnam in the film Aayitha Ezhuthu.
Again, in the year 2004, she entered Telugu cinema and contributed her roles in movies like Ammayi Bagundi and Gudumba Shankar. She further proved her versatility by performing in Kannada film Mourya starred opposite to Puneet Rajkumar. Another Kannada film Arrasu was also a success at the box office. After making her entry into all four South Indian languages, she has acted concurrently in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films.
Her performance in Malayalam film Perumazhakkalam (2004) was very good for which she badded SVanitha-Chandrika Award. Her other Malayalam films Achuvinte Amma (2005) and Rasathanthram (2006) won many accolade and for her performance in Achuvinte Amma, she won Filmfare and Lux-Asianet Film Award for best actress.
To name her few successful films are Achuvinte Amma (Malayalam), Bhadra (Telugu) and Rasatantram (Malayalam),Vinodayathra (Malayalam), Araasu (Kannada). Her 2005 Tamil film Sandakozhi was appreciated by the viewers and the film completed record of 200 days at the box office.
At present, she is the highly paid south Indian actress. In her personal life, she is in a serious relationship with mandolin artist U. Rajesh and they both have confirmed their love for each other. But Meera says, marriage is not going to happen at least for two years until her on-going film commitments are over.
